Property markets in Dordogne and Charente * advice on buying property in the Charente and Dordogne in France
Following return of those people combining holidays with looking at properties in the Charente and Dordogne, we settled down to a September of lesser numbers of clients but possibly more serious house-hunters. This is the norm and often by October the property market is quietening. Such was the expectation this year especially with the British economy showing signs of slowing. Nevertheless, here we are in mid-November with a good number of British, as well as French Clients, not only looking but purchasing as well. Problems in the USA Mortgage market and its knock-on effect in Britain with tighter credit controls/Northern Rock problems/and a sometimes difficult housing market should by rights have slowed the French market. To some extent is has and, like England, vendors have to be realistic about what they will actually obtain. However, it is not a "buyers market" for although there are a great number of properties for sale in the Charente and Dordogne it is still difficult for an intending buyer to actually find what they are looking for. The pound is at present strong against the euro but then the euro was over-valued, so we are probably not far from the truth. Looking ahead most people have other matters in mind during December and January, but Easter is early in 2008. So, we expect the property market to "wake-up" by mid-February. The early Clients will be those whose requirements were not fulfilled in 2007 plus those with a New Years resolution to buy in France during 2008. Buy early and summer holidays will be taken care of ! |
