CHEAP HOUSES IN FRANCE * PROPERTY PRICES REDUCED

Cheap houses in France * property prices reduced * barns to restore * house renovation projects in the Charente and Dordogne in south west France * cheap properties for sale

The Dordogne and Charente, just like the rest of France have seen house prices fall in value over recent months. Owners, keen to make s ale are prepared to reduce their asking prices and as a result there are a number of cheap properties on our books.

CHEAP HOUSES IN FRANCE

To be fair, the Dordogne and Charente have maintained property prices better than other regions in France because demand has been higher due to the regions popularity.

Spring is in the air and already we have had two lunches in the garden this week.

The Canada Geese have been flying overhead - the most blissful sight over the Dordogne which is one of their major routes south. The most extraordinary thing is hearing the noise of them "barking" (not sure if that is what they do but sure sounds like it) and for minutes it is totally impossible to find them in the sky. Then, suddenly, there they are in formation like a fleet of Spitfires flying out of the sun. On Wednesday it was not just one or two formations but five in total. The noise was catastrophic and one's heart went out to the stragglers trying to catch up, obviously so very tired. But did they manure my Potager……..Non!

PROPERTY PRICES REDUCED

It may be the case that property prices have been reduced meaning that buyers can pick up some cheap houses and prices may continue to fall for a while. However, we believe that now is the time to pick up a bargain in France before property prices start to rise again.

It is the most wonderful time of year in South West France. The catkins are turning yellow, the bees are out searching for pollen. The first daffodils are just about blooming. We even had to cut the grass last weekend.

What is even better is that the snow in the Pyrénées is absolutely amazing. Only four hours drive from our office in northern Dordogne, all the slopes are 100% open and as I write it is snowing in the mountains and the forecast is sunshine for next week. The kids will be back to school after their half term break and the slopes will be quiet. So much cheaper than the Alps, no queuing, no posh outfits - just another benefit of living in this part of France.

RENOVATION PROJECTS IN THE CHARENTE AND DORDOGNE

A year ago, if you had a renovation project or house to restore you had to go on a builders waiting list as builders in the Charente and Dordogne had so much work on their hands. Now, they are all looking for and competing for business meaning that the cost of restoring a house or converting a barn costs much less at the moment.

Easter is later this year, mid April. The village of "La Rochebeaucourt" just a mile or so from our office in Mareuil is celebrating its twenty five year fete anniversary. The carnival weekend is always spectacular with floats and chariots covered in flowers and carrying all the local children. This year it will be even better. More floats, even better fireworks.

The markets at Villebois Lavalette and Mareuil are becoming more and more popular and with flights re-starting at Angouleme any time now, only half an hour away via. Ryanair. The area is really opening up to one and all.

For lovers of Cognac/Brandy this is one of the most popular areas to visit.

As for the best of all hidden secrets that we only discovered ourselves having lived here for nearly twenty years.

The "real" Arc de Triumph. It is located between Mareuil where our office is based and our home in La Rochebeaucourt - a replica of the real thing in Paris. Wow.

If you want to know where it is just contact us.

Unfortunately, you'll have to buy a house first to know where it is!
